A Weekend of Renegade Health
Monday, April 27th, 2009 at 9:55 pmKevin and Annmarie Gianni of the Renegade Health Show came and visited Chicago this past weekend.

Do you guys watch this show? I got hooked the first week and that was nine months ago. Now I am a regular watcher of the video blog!
We had a blast hanging out in Chicago despite the odd weather. It was hot Friday, then cold and rainy Saturday, then warm and rainy off and on Sunday. That’s Chicago for you! :)
On Friday, we went to Doc’s for some green juice (they must have gone back twice a day), Karyn’s Fresh Corner for lunch, all over downtown Chicago by foot, and then to Cousin’s for some late dinner. Karyn Calabrese, by the way, was the one who inspired me and taught me how to go raw! Watch this video to see what is in two of the best salads I’ve ever had at Karyn’s!
The below video is her giving us a personal tour of her Inner Beauty Center. Oo-la-la! I think my favorite services there are the far infrared sauna and the rife machine. Live blood cell analysis is pretty neat too but I got mine done somewhere else.

Karyn is looking awesome! She is energetic and quick and just turned 62 years young!
Superfood Party at Cousin’s Saturday night. It’s always so funny to see people’s faces as they try out Marine Phytoplankton for the first time! I just LOVE talking about the benefits of these foods ;)

After party dinner at the restaurant…

We had a potluck with the Chicago Raw Food Community on Sunday where Kevin and Annmarie did a talk on Kevin’s upcoming book, High-Raw. I really love the concept: It’s not just about raw foods, it’s also about your work, relationships, emotional health, exercise, spirituality, etc. Raw Foods doesn’t necessarily = health, you know? It all has to work together for your ultimate health. The book will be available for FREE soon. The only catch is you have to pass it on :)

What did I make for the potluck? It was one of my first ever raw food salad creations (from a raw food website, that is).
Simple Wakame Salad
1 clove garlic, grated
1/2 teaspoon grated ginger
1/2 avocado
Bragg’s to taste (or Tamari or Nama Shoyu)
3 cups greens (I used spinach, arugula, and some spring mix I had around)
1 cup soaked wakame seaweed
optional: tomatoes, walnuts, pecans, almonds or pine nuts (I used tomatoes and sesame seeds)
Mix/mash with your hands! Lots of people said they liked it!

Now what’s this I’m holding? Jackfruit! It was about 40 lbs and someone in the raw food community bought it at a local Vietnamese Store. Get this–there was one about 3 times the size of this one! Wow.

It was terribly messy to open and get the little fruits out though. I don’t know if I’d do it again. I had this sap like glue on my hands for hours and couldn’t get it off. It was like a natural super-glue! Yummy though. Doesn’t it look like Calamari?
Jackfruit Smoothie Recipe (It was delicious)
Jackfruit pieces
Young Thai Coconut meat and water
Blend in Vita-Mix.
It was a fun weekend with Kevin and Annmarie and I am so grateful for all my raw food friends and the wonderful raw food community I’m a part :) Thank you all!!
