Juice fasting and juice bars

Well it’s that time again!  I’ve been having so much fun enjoying life and launching new business venture, I’ve been postponing doing a cleanse.  This week has been the week though!  And it was perfect because my boyfriend was out of town last weekend and he usually takes me grocery shopping, so I was completely out of food last Sunday night (except for two melons which will be perfect to break and ease out of this fast).  Great deals on organic cucumbers, strawberries, and tomatoes temp me too much!!

So the plan is 5-7 days on water, lemon water, apple cider vinegar water, and green juice (either fresh or made with Greener Grasses), supplemented with Marine Phytoplankton and Island Fire (for those of you who don’t know what these are, you can check out the links).  Today is day 4 and so far it has been relatively easy.  My stomach has definitely shrunk because for “dinner” last night, I had a 16 oz green juice and a shot of wheatgrass and I was FULL.

Other things I’m doing: wheatgrass shots, E3 Live shots (I had some Brain On the other night at Cousin’s IV), systemic enzymes, msm in water, rebounding, and going to sleep early (like 10-11 PM instead of 1:30-3 PM).

If you’re ready for some sort of cleanse, try doing some sort of variation on the above and work with what you have (please consult with your doctor first, of course, and read the disclaimer on the bottom of this site ;)  Here is a series of posts I did on how to create your own detox program.

For this fast, I have really been utilizing the best ever organic juice and smoothie bar (they have food there too) down the street from me, Doc’s.  I have a Breville Juice Fountain Elite but I don’t think it’s worth the time or organic resources to make my own juice; besides, I’d rather get out on my bike in the sun for a few blocks.  A 16 oz green juice there is only $5.75!  My fav is a custom blend of cucumber, celery, kale, spinach, double ginger :)

So I saw this motorcycle right outside of the bar and just had to take a picture. I’ve never seen a yoga mat strapped onto the back of a motorcycle before, let along outside of an organic juice/smoothie bar.  It was a breath of fresh air to see :)

I love this place.  Victoria Boutenko, the woman responsible for the Green Smoothie Movement, would be so proud!  I hope she comes and visits Chicago again soon!

New avocado smoothies and veggie/fruit smoothies on the menu too.  I love avocados and probably go through 5 a week.  I use them for my salad dressings and collard green wraps :)  They are anywhere from $1.50-2.50 here.  I asked the owner how much they got them for–they are about 66 cents each! BUT they order a huge box of 48 or so at a time.  Shows you how much the stores mark them up though!  Oh well…

Mmmmm…Avocoados… OK, I need to stop thinking about food now.  I’ve got a few more days of this fast left! LOL.

Question of the Day:  Do you have a place where you can get a green smoothie near you?
