Kombucha Celebrites and Fun Kombucha Ideas

Okay, first of all, the above is a picture of G.T. Dave, the founder and creator of G.T.s Kombucha.  I can’t believe I’ve never seen a pic of him before–not only is he young, but he is anything but a hippie!   I’ve got kombucha on the brain today because I’m teaching a class on how to make your own kombucha tonight at Cousin’s IV in Chicago.

Here is the article I got this picture from.  It was in the July 2008 issue of W Magazine and it’s a good, short read :)

I think my favorite part of this article is where he mentions how much he drinks a day.  Good thing because I can drink 1-3 bottles a day no problem!

I’m a big supporter of G.T’s Kombucha because 1) I drink it myself every now and then (it’s what introduced me to the drink), and 2) because it’s what introducing thousands of others to a yummy, fizzy drink OTHER than soda.  What a great subsitute!

However, I’m an even bigger proponent of making it yourself, if you can.  Why?  Three reasons:  It is SO much less in terms of price, sugar, and caffeine.  When you make it yourself, you can make a bottle of kombucha for literally pennies on the dollar and you are in complete control of the sugar and caffeine content (that is, if that matters to you or if you’re sensitive to either of the two).

I’ll probably post more on what I shared tonight next week.  For now, I’ll give you some fun kombucha trivia:

Other uses for Kombucha:

  • Face astringent/toner (that are tons of healthy acids that are great for your skin)
  • Aftershave (tell your BF to save his money!)
  • Pimples,  bug bites
  • Salad dressing/marinade (blend with oil, agave, seasonings, maybe some light apple cider vinegar)
  • Fly trap (put a couple millimeters at the bottom of cup and top off with a paper funnel)
  • Fun cocktails! (you can get creative here ;)
  • Prevent/cure hangovers (so I’ve heard….)
